Why You Should Become a PPSA Member?

Public Awareness

The primary aim of the PPSA is to promote the awareness amongst the UK population of the marketing method that is provided by FSBO websites for selling property privately. The general public is largely unaware that an alternative to the traditional method of using an Estate Agent exists.

Possibly the biggest problem FSBO websites face is overcoming this lack of understanding on the part of the home owner and countering the power of the agent. This is not an easy thing to do for a stand-alone website. This is a long term project and will cost money to succeed. The more members we have, the more money we can invest to achieve this primary objective that is common to all members.

As a member you will be able to contribute to helping the PPSA promote private selling and you will reap the benefits of this increased awareness by being listed as a member on the PPSA website.

Credibility

In its brief history, the Internet is littered with .com disasters which have led consumers to grow wary of unsubstantiated online traders. Through the creation of a self governing trade association, the FSBO website sector immediately gains credibility. All members have the right to display the PPSA logo on their website indicating that they have agreed to abide by the PPSA Code of Conduct. The general public will become aware of the PPSA and the work it does in promoting private selling and ensuring that its members operate is to a high standard.

In short, the PPSA logo will represent a kite mark; a symbol that will represent quality and integrity. Any site displaying the logo will share this credibility.

Pooled Marketing Fund

The PPSA has minimal running costs. It is anticipated that 90% of membership fees will be available for marketing purposes.

This marketing will be targeted at raising awareness and promoting the private sales concept. This will benefit all members regardless of location or size

PR is expensive but with pooled funds we will be able to afford good, well targeted and effective campaigns.

Representation

What the private sales websites have lacked is an effective voice that can be heard above that of the NAEA and the Estate Agents. This means that property sellers are not always best served. Which? is largely a lone voice championing the consumers’ rights with regard to property selling.

The PPSA will help to represent the interests of the general public and lend its weight to organisations like Which?

As an association the PPSA will be available to provide comments and opinions to the media and press. It will be able to lobby for private sellers’ interests at national level. It will provide an alternative view to that promoted by the NAEA.

Compliance

The PPSA will monitor and police its members and the services they offer. We will offer guidance and advice as required to maintain the high standards that we expect members to uphold.

Any complaints that are referred to the Chairman will be investigated vehemently. If a member is deemed to have fallen short of our standards or failed to adhere to the Code of Conduct then they will dealt with accordingly which may include exclusion from the association.

This not only ensures that the general public receives the service that they should expect from the members but also protects the quality and integrity of the PPSA name.

Support

All members are competitors of one another. But we are all brothers in arms when it comes to promoting private selling. For that reason the PPSA will offer help to get new members established. Advice is available on web design, marketing, systems, affiliate links etc.
